Feeling sad and angry, reading the news websites (and xitter), I remembered substack and found this - I am so grateful. Finding peace between memory and hope on Sunday morning. Thank you xx

I am so grateful for this comment - thank you. I write in different genres, including polemics when I let some of the anger you describe (which I share) shape the narrative, but these more reflective and lyrical pieces soothe me in writing them, and dig down into a more reflective, gentler part of myself. I think we need both, to fully inhabit this complex, messy, wondrous world in which we find ourselves.

Oh thank you, Tina. I had forgotten Blue Grass, also worn by my mother when I was a child in Leeds. Memories come flooding back…

And how privileged you were to be so intimate with that nesting goose.

Thank you for this Alison, which I overlooked. The sharing of memories ripples out. Living on the houseboat was my sojourn in paradise. I miss it, but I tell myself that the more we miss something about the past, the more fortunate we are to have had it at all.
