Thank you for this moving piece. It moved me to find out more about Elie Wiesel, and his son Elisha. I am puzzled that they both support the Israeli settlement of Palestinian territories, which I understand is regarded as illegal. Also, I am puzzled that although Elisha does agree with the aim of a two state solution, but he has not himself sought to enter into dialogue with Palestinians.
Thank you for this. I glean insights from Elie Wiesel but to be honest I tend not to draw direct connections with the complex politics of the Middle East. Like many people, I'm appalled by Israel's escalation of regional conflict, but I'm also appalled by the cynical exploitation of ordinary people by Hamas and Hezbollah's violent leaders. It's a mess on all sides, but Wiesel's wisdom can I think transcend the particulars of our moment in history and offer a lens through which to view the human condition with all its hopes and horrors.
